引用中の省略

Ellipses

普通の英語論文では目にしないのですが、総説などでは、普段見かけないような「スタイル」を見かけることがあります。今回は、引用文中の省略。

以下、シカゴ・マニュアルから引用しておきます。

１）文中での省略

"When a species . . . increases inordinately in numbers in a small tract, epidemics . . . often ensue: and here we have a limiting check independent of the struggle for life. ２）文中から文末の省略

続いて、 . . . とコロン:。

小さな記号ですが、それぞれに意味があります。
